The Wake Chapel Church Nominating Committee will meet this fall to identify candidates for open board positions on the Congregational Council. Serving as a member of the Congregational Council allows Wake Chapel Church members to utilize and hone their skills in the areas of leadership, strategic planning and active collaboration with church and community partners; all in the context of Christian principles.

The Congregational Council is a working board, which requires individuals to dedicate their time in support of Wake Chapel’s strategic objectives. Serving on the Congregational Council requires attendance at all regularly scheduled and special meetings held throughout each year. In addition, service on the Congregational Council entails other responsibilities such as serving on a committee or performing ancillary duties expected of a Congregational Council member. If chosen to become a Congregational Council member, please keep in mind that it is a three-year time commitment. A detailed Congregational Council Position Description can be found by Clicking Here, and a list of current and outgoing Congregational Council members can be found by Clicking Here. You are encouraged to speak with current Congregational Council members to understand the scope and breadth of their responsibilities. In addition, please Click Here to see the attached Constitution & Bylaws for insight into Wake Chapel Church’s Constitution and governing structure.

The Nominating Committee therefore formally invites you to nominate yourself for service to Wake Chapel Church and the community. Please do not assume the Nominating Committee knows you are interested in this leadership role. The continued strength of the Congregational Council and of Wake Chapel Church largely depends upon an inclusive nominations process. The Nominating Committee therefore strives to ensure the Congregational Council composition reflects the diversity of Wake Chapel Church’s membership; and to that end your submission should highlight any relevant factors. Due to the nature of the responsibilities of the Council and present outstanding business, it is appropriate to share in full transparency that there are three current Congregational Council members with intentions to seek reappointment as a result of their term ending.

Per the Wake Chapel Church Constitution & Bylaws, being a member of Wake Chapel Church is required in order to seek a Congregational Council position. So, if you have an interest in serving in this capacity, please Click Here to Complete the Self Nomination Form and Submit it to the Nominating Committee. The deadline to submit the Self Nomination Form is December 18, 2023.

The Nominating Committee will thereafter certify eligibility of candidates, compile and review submitted Self Nomination Forms, interview selected qualified candidates and create a slate of qualified candidates to fill the open seats. The slate of qualified candidates will be presented to the Wake Chapel Church family for a vote at the January 2023 Annual Meeting. Selected candidates will serve either the unexpired term of any open Congregational Council seat (if applicable) or a full three-year term.

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Congregational Council.
